NIRVANA'S "NEVERMIND" DVD WITH BUTCH

A new DVD documentary about the making of Nirvana's "Nevermind" album is due for release next month.
Titled "Classic Albums: Nirvana - Nevermind", the disc will feature new interviews with remaining band members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, as well the record's producer Butch Vig.
Reported by Billboard.com, apparently Vig's interview is of particular interest as it shows the producer manipulating master tapes at the mixing console to break down how specific tracks came to fruition.
Also included is a live clip of "Polly" from 1991 and featurettes about Grohl joining the band and the creation of the "Nevermind" album cover, which infamously depicted a nude baby submerged in a swimming pool, with a dollar bill dangled in front of its face.
The disc is due for release on March 22nd.

I was fucking freaking out). I didn’t know what was wrong with me", the vocal cords operation, Bleed Like Me album and many other topics. Read the whole interview and see the scans here.

BLEED LIKE ME SLANG MAGAZINE REVIEW ***1/2 (out of 5)

Like the transvestite with a hidden surprise for all the businessmen sitting at the bar, Garbage has consistently tricked proud rockers into buying pop music. The genre-defying quartet’s pop has always been neatly tucked away beneath a coat of guitars and frenzied electronic programming—anyone who thinks “Stupid Girl” and “Special” aren’t pop songs is kidding themselves. In 2001, Garbage revealed more of their pop side than ever with the aptly-titled beautifulgarbage, but it may have been just a little too beautiful for their rock constituency’s tastes and the album failed to reprise the commercial and critical success of the Grammy-nominated Version 2.0. (The band should be credited, however, for not attempting to make Version 3.0.) After rumors of professional and personal divorces (the band briefly broke up during recording and lead singer Shirley Manson split with her husband of seven years), Garbage picked up the pieces and recorded Bleed Like Me, their hardest record to date. The opening song, “Bad Boyfriend,” features drum work by Dave Grohl, who previously worked with Garbage-man Butch Vig on Nirvana’s Nevermind, and it was Grohl’s lightning-quick performance that set the tone for the rest of the album, including the lead single “Why Do You Love Me,” which is fast, filthy, and patently Garbage. Songs once padded with samples and electronic sounds are now layered with even more guitars. A few of the songs (“Run Baby Run” and “Right Between The Eyes” in particular) have all the right ingredients but lack the venom present on the group’s first two releases, but the title track, a song about “damaged” people (anorexics, cutters, et al.) that could have been an After School Special disaster, is saved by Manson’s prickly, irreverent performance. And thankfully not all of the band’s signature electro-rock fusion has been excised—the old Garbage resurfaces on “Metal Heart” and “Boys Wanna Fight,” a song about war and dancing, while “Sex Is Not The Enemy,” a response to the new Puritanism, peddles the message that’s become Manson’s creative watermark: “A revolution is the solution.” If Version 2.0 was techno-pop perfection posing as rock, Bleed Like Me is its noisy, long-haired cousin playing metal riffs in the garage.

SHIRLEY MANSON REVEALS WHY GARBAGE SPLIT

Garbage singer Shirley Manson has explained why the band temporarily split up during the recording of their new album.
The rock veterans are about to release their fourth album “Bleed Like Me” but it came close to being doomed when drummer Butch Vig walked out during it’s recording.
Manson says: “We had a lot of problems making this record. We were very unfocussed and we lost a lot of enthusiasm for what we were doing. We had some big confrontations with each other I suppose, we had to question exactly why we were still in the band. It was just unpleasant and horrible and we had started to argue and throw tantrums and Butch decided that he had to go home to LA for a while, and I went back to Scotland.
“We weren’t really functioning very well, and then when we had the time away we realised that we really had to pool our forces together to get a new album finished. That’s when we started to say, ‘Okay, let’s go back, we can do this. We’re the only people who can make a Garbage record, we have to get it together’.”
After the brief schism, Garbage regrouped and completed the album quickly in the second half of last year. “We just wanted to try and capture the sound of us live and I think we’ve never really managed to do that before.
“The last record (2001’s ‘Beautifulgarbage’) was really weird, we tried a lot of things and some worked and some didn’t. We all felt that the tracks that worked best were the ones that focussed on plugging in the guitars, so that’s what we’ve concentrated on this time round.”
Garbage release “Bleed Like Me” on 11th April, preceded by a single “Why Do You Love Me?”.

"WHY DO YOU LOVE ME" REVIEW ON CANADA'S POPJOURNALISM

After 2001’s Beautifulgarbage, an interesting mix of electronic rock with 60s-inspired girl-group melodies, Garbage returns with their hardest single ever. “Why Do You Love Me” amps up the electric guitars unlike anything they've done since their 1995 debut. Singer Shirley Manson is as awesome as ever, singing the verses with pop pleasantness, then powering through the chorus, “Why do you love me (x3) / It’s driving me crazy,” like a woman possessed. A welcome return to form that raises expectations for their imminent new album Bleed Like Me. (Interscope)

DAVE GROHL ON "BAD BOYFRIEND"

An interview with David Grohl was made for a radio in the Los Angeles and New York City area, which should be hitting radio stations at the end of March. Most of the interview was mainly about the upcoming Foo Fighters album, then he was asked about the new Garbage album "Bleed Like Me".
Mike: So Dave, we all know you are a all around awesome guy, we would like to know how was it working with Butch Vig and Garbage?
Dave: It was amazing, utterly fantastic! Butch called me up and asked to listen to a song, and asked me to go into the studio and do some "anonymous" drumming for him. It really took about 2 hours to finish it and it sounds f*cking awesome!
Mike: Any favorite lyrics from the [Bad Boyrfriend] song?
Dave: I don't have a favorite, there is a part where she wails "It's wild the way you tease me, it's wild the way you free me". She really nailed it.
The other parts are about the new NIN album and his plans for his new record and the tour. Clips of this interview will be flowing through radio stations throught LA and NYC at the end of March. Please listen in to your rock/alternative radio stations, and keep voting for "Why Do You Love Me"!

READ HER LIPS: BLOODY BUT NOT BEATEN

UK newspaper Sunday Times has a free magazine with Shirley on the cover: Culture.
On the article, Shirley talks about the recording process of Bleed Like Me,
women in rock music, her lack of physical confidence, her vocal chords cirurgy.
Regarding Bleed Like Me, the article reads: Bleed Like Me opens with the furious, high-octane Bad Boyfriend, with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, beating merry hell out of the kit. This sequencing was a deliberate bid to set the bar high for what follows, and the album ’s 10 subsequent tracks of the band’s signature electropop-punk do indeed fly out of the traps — as though their very lives (okay, their careers) depended on it. The lead single, Why Do You Love Me, has received the coveted Most Added (to radio) cachet in America, so things seem set fair. And Manson, revitalised both by making this record and by her collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age and Marilyn Manson, is raring to go.
You can read the complet article here (if you're from UK) or here. Go to my magazines section to se the cover of the magazine. With this one and two I added yesterday, you can see 120 magazine covers listed!

"I'M NOT MARRIED ANYMORE"

Sunday Gerald (Scottish tabloid newspaper) published a big article on Shirley Manson. This 'I'm not married anymore' quite selx-explanatory title may give you a clear idea of what it's about. IF you're interested in reading about this, go to the newspaper article here.
Garbage Box wishes Shirley and Eddie all best, and are thankful this entire process was not public until Shirley decided so in the interview for this newspaper. Shirley always kept her life her own buziness and let's hope it stays that way.
This news makes Bleed Like Me's lyrics much more clear now.

BLEED LIKE ME: STUFF MAGAZINE ALBUM OF THE MONTH

Stuff Magazine has reviewed 'Bleed Like Me' and given it 5 stars. Highest rating possible. They named it Album of the Month:
"Garbage front woman Shirley Manson must have plowed through a lot of personal trash in the past three years, judging from the tone of "Bleed Like Me", the band's new album. Either that, or she's to caught up in The OC. That s**t is an emotional roller coaster! But Shirley is a survivor. So instead of folding under an assault of unfaithful lovers, personal abuse and insecurity, she picked herself up by the garter belt.
Bleed like me is the bands heaviest and most hedonistic offering. The've ditched the electronics in favor of a more straightforward aural attack. But while songs such as Bad Boyfriend, which features Dave Grohl on drums, and the salacious "Sex Is Not The Enemy" exhibit a clear desire to rock out. Garbage can still get gooey, as on the piano and feedback saturated "It's All Over But The Crying and "Bleed Like Me", a touching ode to anorexics, masochists, and drunks. (Shirley is obviously a huge fan of the Americna Idol judges.)" - Jon Wiederhorn

SHIRLEY MANSON GETS READY TO SING AND TYPE ON GARBAGE TOUR

After taking two and half years off from performing, Garbage are desperate to tour again. Really desperate.
"We'll play anywhere: wedding, bar mitzvahs, whatever," bassist/guitarist Steve Marker said recently.
"If anyone is listening and needs an opening band, give us a call," added guitarist/bassist Duke Erikson.
Fortunately, Garbage have since landed their own tour — of theaters and clubs, not bar mitzvahs — kicking off April 10 in San Francisco and wrapping up May 4 in Chicago.
"We are totally pumped to get back on the road. ... That's kind of what we do, so it's been weird not to do it," Marker said. "We're doing a little swing around the States to see how the new stuff works onstage and hopefully keep going a long time after that."
That new stuff is from Garbage's fifth album, Bleed Like Me, which the band is calling its most guitar-driven record yet (see "Garbage Breakup Ends With New LP — If They Did Actually Break Up").
"I think they'll be a gas to play live because they have a lot of crazy energy," drummer Butch Vig said of the songs, especially "Metal Heart" and "Boys Wanna Fight." "Sonically, it's a little bit more like the old Garbage stuff. At least in 'Metal Heart' there's a lot of weird electronics that Steve and Duke did, as well as some pretty gnarly guitar. And Shirley's lyrics have a lot of depth to them. They're very much about now and what's going on around us."
As with all Garbage happenings, the tour will be thoroughly documented on the band's Web site by singer Shirley Manson.
"I just do it for a laugh," Manson said. "I love looking back because you forget so quickly, and you're busy doing show after show and interview after interview. You forget it all, and you can look back — I think it is five years I have kept — and you can remember all these outrageous things that have happened to you and these stupid little incidents."
Manson's blog has thousands of readers, but Vig and Erikson aren't among them.
"I don't think they have a clue as to what's in it, although I think Steve checks it out every now and again," Manson said.
"A lot of times that's the only way I know what's going on," Marker joked.
Bleed Like Me, which features the just-released first single, "Why Do You Love Me," is due April 12.

The winners are qualified for the grand prize of being Garbage’s tour manager for a day. The winner will do whatever the band’s tour manager does, including traveling with the band from the hotel to the venue, participating in sound check, taking care of the will call list. According to 99X, the winner may even be "warming up Shirley Manson’s tea, laughing at the band’s jokes, [and] rubbing Butch Vig‘s feet." Garbage has added seven more dates to their spring tour, in Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Washington, DC, Toronto, and Chicago.

BILLBOARD 'W.D.Y.L.M.' REVIEW

Garbage comes roaring back to form with "Why Do You Love Me." The hard'n'fast single is flying up the Modern Rock Tracks chart, where it is the band's highest-charting title since 1999. Though the group, fronted by the ever-fabulous Shirley Manson, released an album in 2001, none of its singles dented the modern chart. "Why Do You Love Me" starts with a monster guitar riff and then cuts into the core of the song—an uptempo bed of music led by whining guitars and crazy-fast drumming. Listeners will find themselves involuntarily bobbing their heads and tapping their toes. Matched with smart (yet cryptic) lyrics, the song has the makings of a hit. "Why Do You Love Me" is the first single from the band's new album, "Bleed Like Me," due April 12.

GARBAGE SET SPRING TOUR

Garbage will launch a North American club tour April 8th in Seattle. The spring outing comes in support of their fourth album, Bleed Like Me, due April 12th.
Bleed, completed after a near four-month disbanding, features raw, guitar-heavy pop accented by Garbage's signature electronic effects. Songs include "Bad Boyfriend," featuring the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl on drums, and "Metal Heart," a political rant inspired by the war in Iraq, shrouded in layers of violin samples and techno beats.
"You just start questioning everything after a while," singer Shirley Manson told Rolling Stone in January of the inspiration for "Metal Heart." "You can't believe a fuckin' damn thing you see or hear. I got to the point where I felt like a real paranoid liberal."
Garbage will head to Europe following their North American tour.
Garbage's North American tour dates:
4/8: Seattle, Paramount
4/10: San Francisco, The Warfield
4/11: Los Angeles, Wiltern Theater

GARBAGE BURIES THE HATCHET , NEW ALBUM AND TOUR AHEAD

Four rocky years after the release of the group's third album, Garbage is returning with new material and a North American club tour.
"Bleed Like Me," the group's follow-up to 2001's "Beautiful Garbage," is due in stores April 11. The outing in support of the new set gets underway April 8 in Seattle, and so far is scheduled to visit a dozen cities.
"To me, personally, the very fact that [the new album] got finished is a miracle," singer Shirley Manson said in the band's record label biography.
Garbage essentially broke up after serving as the opening act on U2's 2001 tour. In the midst of the tour, drummer Butch Vig was diagnosed with Type A hepatitis and Manson later lost her voice, for which she eventually underwent successful surgery to remove a cyst on her vocal cord. When the group finally got around to working on new material, things didn't fall into place.
"On a psychological level, my heart just wasn't in it," Vig said in a statement. "It was like, 'I gotta go.' If we're gonna finish this record we gotta take a break and re-build the creative juices."
Five months later, the group was ready to get to work on new material.
Said Manson: "All the bands that came out back when we did are gone, but we're still standing, wanting to make records, regardless of success or expectations or other outside forces. That's a really empowering feeling, and I think it helped us make the record that we wanted in the end."

MARCH 2ND 2005

ANTI-HIT LIST BY JOHN SACAMOTTO

Toronto Star rated "Why Do You Love Me" as one of the Top 10 best new songs:
In what amounts to a bleak variation on the Groucho Marx punchline about not wanting to belong to any club that would have him as a member, Shirley Manson harangues some poor sod whose only sin appears to be his dubious taste in women. The proceedings are complicated by a menacing guitar riff, which makes it difficult to decide whether to regard Manson's confession of self-loathing with horror or admiration. GARBAGE TO TOUR CANADA FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOUR YEARS

After a four-year- absence, Garbage have re-emerged and are touring in celebration of a new CD.
Bleed Like Me, the band’s fourth CD is set to hit stores on April 11. The album's first single "Why Do You Love Me" is already playing on radio stations.
As previously reported the disc features a few special guests. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters appears on drums on one of the songs and Marilyn Manson recorded some guest vocals.
According to MTV, this record captures Garbage's live sound more than their previous releases. Drummer Butch Vig says the disc has more guitars and less electronic sounds.
Their last disc, Beautiful Garbage, came out in 2001 and was moderately successful. Nothing, however, could match the height of their first CD, which featured the hit single, "Only Happy When It Rains."
The two Canadian dates on the Garbage tour so far are April 24 in Montreal at Metropolis and April 25 in Toronto at the Kool Haus. Tickets for the Toronto show go on sale March 4 at Ticketmaster, Rotate This and Sonic Temple for $36.75.
