STARS TO HELP HIV BASH
IN EDINBURGH
Sir Elton John has agreed to help raise
funds for an Edinburgh-based HIV charity, donating signed
items for an auction being planned as part of Waverley
Care’s event at the Prestonfield House Hotel next year.
Aussie pop icon Kylie Minogue has also agreed to donate
personal items for auction.
It has already been announced that Garbage frontwoman Shirley
Manson, the patron of the charity, will be hosting the Tartan
and Tiaras bash on January 3.
It will be Waverley Care’s biggest fundraiser, with a
sell-out audience of 250 expected at the gala event, which is
also marking 25 years of the Stockbridge hair salon Klownz,
where Manson is a client.
The singer said: "Since I became a patron of Waverley
Care last year, I’ve been keen to be involved with an event
that raises both the profile and funds for the charity. It
should be a fun evening and a fantastic way to finish off the
New Year celebrations".
Waverley Care fundraiser Bryce Potter added: "This is a
fantastic event for Waverley Care to be involved with and we
hope that, as well as helping us to raise much need funds, it
will raise awareness of the work we do in Scotland with people
living with HIV. We are extremely appreciative of both Shirley
and Klownz for all their enthusiasm and support."
Waverley Care is Scotland’s largest charity providing care
and support to people whose lives have been touched, directly
or indirectly, by HIV or Aids.

SHIRLEY & MARILYN MANSON TO DUET
Various newspapers and Radio 1 (in the UK) claim that Shirley
has been in secret negotiations over a duet with the Marilyn
Manson. The two Mansons hope to release a track early next year.
This will possibly coincide with the release of Garbage's
untitled 4th album.
"That's behind me now though and I am feeling better about
things, but it hasn't been the easiest record to make. I got
through it. I'm just glad the operation was a success.''
Garbage are currently working on a new batch of songs.
Shirley said: "Trying to get the album finished has been
the main focus of our year. I've been working with a vocal coach
who has given me warm-up and cool down exercises because I
wasn't doing them. They couldn't believe I'd been singing for as
long as I had, but I'd been lucky. Now I have to make annoying
noises before and after every show. It's very luvvy which is
embarrassing because I have always tried to avoid that. But it
has made a huge difference to my voice.''
The Edinburgh-born singer can't wait to make a homecoming
appearance at the MTV Europe Music Awards this Thursday at the
Ocean Terminal in Leith, where she'll present an award. But she
insists she will not be competing with divas such as Kylie
Minogue, Beyonce Knowles and Christina Aguilera at the ceremony.
"I can't believe the MTV awards are happening in Leith, ''
Shirley said. "Who would have thought it? I don't know what
the locals will make of it. But it will be interesting. I find
awards a bit ridiculous half the time. The people who organise
them are stressed out as are a lot of the celebrities, so it
doesn't make for the best atmosphere. People who do what we do
love to dress up and make a noise. A shrinking violet is not
going to be a singer in a band. It's a big night and people want
to look good. But I don't see it as a competition. And, of
course, it is in my home city and I'm proud of that.''

SHIRLEY AT THE MTV
EUROPEAN MUSIC AWARDS
Shirley co-presented an award with
Texas' Sharleen Spiteri. Shirley
appeared with a new look that left satisfied the majority of the
fans!
Speaking backstage they criticised organisers for not having
more Scottish performers. Manson said: "It's a pity more
Scots couldn't have come here tonight." Sharleen added:
"We are few - but we are strong."

4TH ALBUM TITLE "HANDS ON A HARD BODY"?
"We're thinking of calling the new album 'Hands on a
Hard Body' after that crazy competion they have somewhere down
in Texas where locals compete to win a truck by seeing who can
keep their hand on the body of the truck for the longest... ...You've
got to see it to believe it. And if you've ever wondered what
it's like to try and remain in a band after nearly ten years,
through sickness and in health, you'll get a glimpse of it right
there in that desperate struggle to win that godforsaken truck."

GARBAGE ALBUMS RE-RELEASED VIA WARNER
Garbage Discography reports that the Garbage albums have been
re-released under their new label on January 10th 2004 on UK and
all will be on East/West Warner. Reports so far say they are on
East/West in Europe as well now. The USA should remain unchanged,
so Interscope should continue to release the albums and
therefore there is no need for them to be re-issued on that
territory.
