FRESH GARBAGE IN THE WORKS
Garbage
are halfway through recording their fourth album at drummer/producer
Butch Vig's Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin. The quartet
hopes to complete the follow-up to 2001's Beautiful Garbage
by October and release it early next year.
"It's a lot more raw," says Vig. "There's been
more live playing and a lot more ad-libbing going on. Instead of
really crafting the songs, we're leaving them a lot looser. We
did a little bit of it on Beautiful Garbage, but that
album was very eclectic. We're hoping that this is going to have
more of a coherent vibe."
The band turned its attention to the new album after wrapping up
a tour with No Doubt and the Distillers last November. Vig took
a short break to produce three songs on newcomer Jessy Moss's
debut Street Knuckles.
Among the songs that might make the cut are "Hangin' With
the Bitches," which Vig says has "sort of a Talking
Heads funky groove but a lot darker and noisier." Also in
the works is "Right Between the Eyes," which he says,
"is more of a full-on rock song that we're pretty chuffed
with."

SHIRLEY AT THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS' GIG
Shirley was at the Yeah Yeah Yeahs'
second sold-out Irving Plaza gig on May 8.
Shirley Manson and Marilyn Manson arrived separately but
probably felt compelled - because they are both rock royalty
with the same last name - to sit together in the V.I.P. area. It
was their first meeting, oddly enough! Shirley came with Rolling
Stone editor Joe Levy.

JESSY MOSS MEETS BUTCH VIG
Australian rapper/singer Jessy Moss landed a
record deal. Her debut, Street
Knuckles (Australian slang for "stories"), due out
July 29th, reflects her multi-faceted story and influences. Moss
weaves together rock, hip-hop and R&B.
Moss co-produced her record with Hahn, Camara Kambon (Eminem,
Dr. Dre) and Butch Vig (Garbage, Nirvana). Vig signed on after
hearing Moss' home-recorded demos. "There was something
really fresh about her," he says. "I get tons of new
artists all the time -- from rock to pop to everything in
between -- and it's rare where something strikes you that much.
It's a combination of the way she sings and her attitude. She's
got that kind of raspy, growly voice and she can also sing that
smooth butter tone."

EVANESCENCE COVERING GARBAGE'S OHWIR
According to Little Rock Hardcore website, Evanescence
covered Garbage: "People compare them to Garbage, which I
can't really see, because I've only listened to a few of their
songs. Well, they played "I'm Only Happy When It Rains"
by Garbage. Amy sounded just like Shirley Manson while playing
the cover. The crowd really seemed to enjoy it."
