GARBAGE HONOR U2'S BONO WITH "PRIDE"
Grammy-winning artist and international superstar Bono (U2) was honored as the 2003 MusiCares Person Of The Year at a special tribute
dinner, concert and silent auction held in New York City on Feb. 21. The honor recognizes Bono's professional and humanitarian
accomplishments.
Shirley Manson, lead singer of Garbage, said the U2 frontman was an inspiration for other
artists.
"I don't know if we can say enough good things about U2 as a band or
people," she said. "Unlike a lot of celebrities at their
status, they're super sweet people with their feet on the ground. Bono's activism is to be marvelled
at."
Garbage played "Pride (In The Name Of Love)". Other participations included BB King and Wynonna Judd ("When Love Comes to
Town"), No Doubt ("Sweetest Thing"), Mary J. Blige
("One"), Norah Jones ("Stuck In a Moment You Can’t Get Out
Of"), And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead ("Electric Co."), and Sheryl Crow
("All I Want Is You"), ...

AIDS MESSAGE BROUGHT TO YOU BY...
Elton John, one of pop's most flamboyant dressers, insists
that the indispensable accessory in today's wardrobe is the
condom. "Life is in fashion these days," he says in an
upcoming public-service announcement. "Protect yourself."
The singer's Elton John AIDS Foundation is teaming with the MAC
AIDS Fund for a safe-sex campaign targeting youth. John, R&B
diva Mary J. Blige and Shirley Manson of rock band Garbage have
taped 30-second spots that begin airing Feb. 19 on MTV and VH1,
with BET to follow. The trio also joins MAC's Viva Glam campaign,
with ads running in April and May in such magazines as Vanity
Fair, Elle, Vogue, W, In Style and
Essence. All proceeds from Viva Glam lipstick sales go to
MAF, which has raised $25 million since 1994.
Each PSA, shot in a stark room with a white bed, intercuts shots
of 100 New York teens with the stars. "If you don't respect
yourself," Blige says, "who will?" All three PSAs
end with the warning: "AIDS Ain't Over."
MAC Cosmetics president John Demsey says John, Blige and Manson
"are perfect spokespeople for this PSA because their
creative expression appeals to all races, all sexes, all
ages."

SHIRLEY WITH LIZA AND OSBOURNE
This article and picture were published on the Scottish Daily Record: "Never thought we'd see the day - Shirley Manson all glammed up in a lacy black dress. The Garbage singer looked every inch the perfect lady as she posed with Liza Minnelli and Kelly Osbourne at the 2003 Hero Awards to celebrate those who have helped the plight of people living with AIDS or HIV. Even Shirley's dyed blonde quiff has been replaced by a respectable slicked-back look. It's clear the Scots singer looks anything but Garbage."

"Now I'd
like to make a really heavy album. Or I'd love to make a
really stripped-down, bare record, just a guitar, vocals and
electronica. But who knows?"
