A FIRE INSIDE (AFI) PRESS RELEASE AFI’s album-in-progress, as yet untitled, is due in 2003. “We’ve never taken this much time between albums. We probably wrote somewhere between 35 and 40 songs. Twenty made it to pre-production, of which 17 are going to be tracked." The Berkeley, Calif.-based quartet is ensconced in a Hollywood studio with producers Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage) and Jerry Finn (Blink 182, Rancid, Green Day).
“I haven’t seen a band since Nirvana with this sort of intense chemistry among its members and with their fans,” says Vig of AFI, who are crafting their DreamWorks Records debut.
Remarks Finn: “Butch and I feel lucky to be working with AFI on this record. The band has written their most ambitious songs and arrangements to date – they’ve truly outdone themselves.”
Butch is leaving on 9/29 to resume touring with Garbage. Jerry and AFI will continue working on the album. We're expecting AFI to release in the first half of next year.
[the press was longer. this is the most
important IMO]

GWEN 'N GAV'S GARBAGE WEDDING! Shirley Manson is on the guest list for the rock wedding of the year! Speaking exclusively to
WorldPop, the Garbage lead singer said 'Yes, I've got my invite to see Gwen (Stefani) and Gavin (Rossdale) get married.'
As previously reported by worldpop, the marriage between the No Doubt lead singer and the Bush frontman will take place with two ceremonies, one in London and one in LA. Manson will be attending the American wedding telling worldop 'I've already got my toaster on order as a present for the happy couple!'
worldpop also caught up with Rossdale to ask if he has any pre-wedding nerves yet. 'Not yet, but I can feel the pressure mounting up by the day! It's gonna be a real showbiz wedding,' joked the Bush singer. 'If you're not famous then you're not coming in!'
Manson has become a close friend of Stefani in recent months, a relationship that has led to the two bands hitting the road for a joint tour of the States starting in October.
'I simply love Gwen,' Manson told worldpop. 'I love to see girls do well.'
The new Garbage single will contain a cover of the Rolling Stones classic Wild Horses. Explaining to worldpop how the track came about, Manson admitted that it was more by accident than as a planned recording.
'We had to record a cover version for a TV show that we were appearing on. We all wanted to record a Velvet Underground song but we were told that it would be too obscure! Wild Horses is such a great song, but to be honest, it's also p*** easy to play!'

WEST LONDON DEEP SAMPLE SHIRLEY MANSON Info
from beautifulgarbage
- the GARBAGE Fan Site:
Burn It Blue reports that Shirley has changed her mind on
letting the band West London Deep use her sampled voice in their
forthcoming release:
’West London Deep has had to go back a couple of steps with
regard to the single release of ‘You’re Taking Me Over’.
The track, which has been around for more than eight months,
originally included a sample from rock stars Garbage and will
now have to be reworked with a new vocal track following a
last-minute change of heart from Garbage singer Shirley Manson.
Remixes have already been planned with Problem Kids, Inner City
and Desyn Masiello & Leon Roberts all lined up for knob
twiddling duties. Future Groove has not given us a date for the
new version release, so in the meantime you’ll have to scout
around for the King Unique bootleg or one of the test pressings’

SHIRLEY MANSON LASHES OUT AT
NICKLEBACK Shirley Manson escalated the war of worda with Nickelback's lead singer, Chad Kroeger tonight at the
Kerrang! Awards when she was presenting the award for Classic
Songwriter.
In typicaly outspoken style Manson stated, 'I came here tonight to have a bust up with the guy from
Nickelback, but he's obviously running scared because he's frightened of getting a kick in the face from
a girl'.
(Nickleback were recently kicked off a concert in Portugal. See
it here!)
She went on to present Classic Songwriter to Offspring.
