VANITY FAIR'S WOMAN IN MUSIC ISSUE

What's a beautiful girl to do for attention when sharing a New York magazine shoot with a crew of stunning women celebs?
Jennifer Lopez certainly had it in hand - grabbing her own famous rear.
But No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani struggled in tartan leggings, pink boots and a dirty green corset - more bad taste than glamour. Rock chick Sheryl Crow bowed out of the competition altogether in her standard leather trousers, as did Nelly Furtado, dressed down in paint-covered jeans.
Debbie Harry was the biggest surprise. Post-Blondie, she's tended to look like someone who lives in a haystack. But she dipped into her sexier past at the Manhattan shoot with a short bob haircut and red sequinned dress.

US TOUR WITH NO DOUBT TO START IN OCTOBER

Rock's most powerful chicks will hit the road together when No Doubt, Garbage and the Distillers kick off their tour October 9 in Minneapolis. Though the itinerary has not been finalized, a spokesperson said the arena outing will wrap around Thanksgiving.

UK TABLOID GOSSIP: SHIRLEY'S FLIGHT BACK TO SCOTLAND

According to Daily Record, Shirley Manson had to wait several minutes to use a loo on her flight back home to Scotland 
earlier this month because Irish President Mrs Mary McAleese was using it as a changing room. Shirley then found a pair of discarded stockings and dutifully reported the missing lingerie to Aer Lingus staff.

RUMOUR: SHIRLEY TO POSE FOR PLAYBOY (?)

The portal InfoBeat published the following news:
"GARBAGE singer SHIRLEY MANSON is rumored to have been offered big money to pose naked in PLAYBOY magazine. So far the Scottish singer has refused to comment, but sources close to the soft porn magazine claim that she is keen to strip off for an upcoming issue."
We don't know the source where this portal took the news from, but it's possible they took it from the Message Board where a "fan" decided to joke about it, and only say he made it up a day later. A scottish newspaper also published this.  

SHOOT FOR VANITY FAIR WITH GWEN STEFANI

On July 16th, Shirley made a joint photo shoot for Vanity Fair with No Doubt's front woman Gwen Stefani, and problably more woman (from rock or not).
The pictures were taken by Annie Leibowitz, which work Shirley loves.
Gwen had her flight canceled, but "finally arrived on set somewhat shaken although looking perfectly divine as usual".

GARBAGE REPORT ON SOL MUSICA TV CHANNEL

The Portuguese and Spanish channel SOL Musica will broadcast a special on Garbage, on August 11th. The spot shows an exclusive interview, problably made in Spain in one of their latest visits. 
It will be broadcasted twice on the same day, as usual, and on the usual time.

SHIRLEY FAN OF NORAH JONES

"Very early on in the proceedings I met the lovely Norah Jones who was rather shy at first but very sweet and didn't even blink an eye when I dramatically announced that upon hearing her sing for the first time I had wanted to vomit.
It was only much later on and upon reflection that I realised my compliment (which it most undoubtably was meant to be) might not have sounded like one!!!
I explained to her later that I had used the phrase "wanted to vomit" in the sense that I had been so utterly taken with her singing and was so spellbound by it that I had felt great inner turmoil.She smiled languidly at me,touched me on the shoulder and said, with the loveliest manner in the world "I know exactly what you mean.Don't worry"
And I decided right there and then that I was bound to Ms Jones for life, will defend her tiny bones to the end and buy each and every sound recording she ever makes in this life cause she's my kind of girl".

GARBAGE WILL OPEN FOR NO DOUBT IN THE US

Garbage will be the opening act for US band No Doubt. This band is known to be very good live, so the shows will most likely be a great combo!
According to Shirley: "we [Shirl & Gwen] high fived each other on the decision that had been made earlier on the day that Garbage would open for No Doubt on their tour of the USA and we both let out a squeal of pleasure whilst doing so!" 

GARBAGE NOT NOMINATED FOR THE MTV VMA 2002

Garbage, once again, did not get nominated for the latest MTV Awards cerymony. Although being elegible to the Best Rock Video category (with "Androgyny" and "Breaking Up The Girl", they did not get any nomination. The nominees are:

GARBAGE BACK IN AUGUST 

The band has made all they were going to do before they take some time off. Right now, some desearved holidays are planned. According to Shirley, on Thursday July 18th:
"Home and my holidays.
Back in late August."

SHIRLEY IS RED HAIRED AGAIN !

Shirley Manson has died her hair red again, according to the UK tabloid The Sun, who published a picture of Shirley shopping. 
According to Shirley in her latest tour diary:
"Reasons to grow my hair: 
I want to. 
I fancy a change. 
Reasons not to: 
When I sweat on stage my hair doesn't turn all weird on me.It pretty much stays the same. 
Boys really like you because you can laugh about it if you get caught in the rain. 
Reasons to be blond: 
I like it. 
It makes me feel frivalous. 
It suits me. 
Reasons to be red: 
Red means beautiful in russian. 
It makes me feel empowered. 
Everytime I see a red haired person,no matter who it is, I feel as though I recognise them and I'm desirous of their redness"

NEW B-SIDES ON THE WAY

According to Shirley's new tour diary: "Wrote two b-sides yesterday on our day off here in Montreux.Turned out to be alot of fun actually and the tracks sound pretty cool.One is called "April the Tenth" which is basically spoken word over a lush electronic landscape and the other is a reggae beat party song called "Sex never goes out of fashion" which sports quite possibly the daftest lyric I have ever written." 
This songs may be released as "Shut Your Mouth" b-sides.

GARBAGE TRIBUTE ALBUM SNIPPETS
July 21st

As we predicted earlier, The Garbage Tribute album (out on July 23rd) is a waste on fans money. The band(s) are just trying to imitate Garbage, and not bringing anything new to the reportoire (like a karaoke session). The site CD Now offers a 30 seconds snippet of each song (if you wanna laught a little, hear The World Is Not Enough).
My advice: buy the Crystal Method album that comes out on the same day.

The Crystal Method will release their first mix album, Community Service, July 23 on Ultra Records. The collection will include remixes by the duo of their own favorites and hits by Garbage and P.O.D., along with tracks by Orbital and the Plump DJs. ... 

SHIRLEY ON ROCK SOUND'S COVER

Shirley made the August edition of the UK Rock Sound magazine. The magazine has seven pages of interview and photos.
Besides that, the free CD also includes "Till The Day I Die".
This magazine is released in several counties, but with different covers.

LATEST SHUT YOUR MOUTH INFO
July 20th

Opal Music announces for August 26th the release of Shut Your Mouth in UK on a 12" and 2 CDs.
On the other hand, HMV Australia says the single will be released on September 16th on that country.

GARBAGE RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA
July 20th

Garbage will return to the land Down Under this coming October as part of the M-One Festival. The tour starts off in Brisbane on October 4th with stops in Sydney (October 7th), Adelaide (October 10th), and Melbourne (October 12th).

NEXT ALBUM RELEASED FASTER
July 11th

On a interview, Steve and Duke stated that the next Garbage album will be recorded much faster than the last three. They said two weeks, with more people involved, and not with a low budjet.
They want it to be released this year still.

The MTV Fansite team contacted me in order to confirm the transmission time for the Behind The Music special on VH1.
It will be on July 11th, at 8 PM.
"In Garbage's Behind the Music, Shirley Manson reveals her traumatic experience with self-mutilation or "cutting."  Behind The Music presents the story of a band that has reinvented its sound with each album, building on its loyal fan base every step of the way". 

GARBAGE PLAYED IN MOSCOW
July 6th

News on the Garbage camp are getting more contradicting each day goes by. After an official news on concert cancelations, Garbage played a show in Moscow. The setlist was something like: Push It / Temptation Waits / I Think I'm Paranoid / Special / Cup Of Coffee / When I Grow Up / Not My Idea / Hammering In My Head / Milk / Shut Your Mouth / Stupid Girl / Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!) / Vow // Supervixen / So Like A Rose / Only Happy When It Rains / Androgyny. 

GARBAGE TOUR CANCELED?
July 5th

According to Garbage Web (with a new design!), the Forestglade official website, following the announcement of Shirley's voice problems:
We just got a call from Garbage's agents in Moskow, where the band was yesterday. Shirley Manson lost her voice. Following a visit to the doctor, all further Tour activities had to be cancelled. In such short time it is of course impossible for us to find a replacement.
Such cancellations are of course the most bitter ones that can happen. We are helpless. We can only be fair to you. Whoever bought a Friday ticket and wanted to see Garbage only, will get the money back of course. You can exchange tickets on the festival site or by post.
The amount of canceled dates is not yet known.

SHIRLEY DRUNK IN ROSKILDE
July 5th

Garbage performed at Roskilde on June 30. Apparently, Shirley was so drunk the band had to stop songs and were forced to abruptly finish the set without a goodbye, after an hour of show.
The normally charming Shirley Manson had damaged her voice and felt it necessary to try fixing the problem with huge amounts of her homeland's whisky. That resulted in the little lady getting so drunk that she had major problems remembering both set and lyrics. That was clearly annoying for the other band members, who replied by playing both bad and without putting their souls into it. Several times the band stopped a song, simply because Miss Manson started wrong.

MADONNA FAN OF I.T.I.P. VIDEO
July 5th

The TV channel MTV2 broadcasted a Madonna A-Z videos special, and the
announcer said that one of her videos was directed by Matthew Rolston, that she chose because "she was a fan of Garbage's 'I Think I'm Paranoid' video that he directed"

NEW "SHUT YOUR MOUTH" CUT
July 5th

The "Shut Your Mouth" video is now on TV. If we compare it to the video previously released over the internet and some European TV channels, it has a slight difference: Steve Marker appears now thiner and dressed in black.

VH1's Behind The Music special will be finally broadcasted on VH1 UK
On July 11th, VH1 will broadcast premieres from Garbage, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bob Marley, Neil Diamond and Foreigner. When we know the broadcast time, we will put it up!
