“There are a lot of nonsense stereotypes
– like all men being predators and women always being
submissive. There’s this bizarre idea that women don’t even have
a sex drive. I think that’s stupid and I wanted this song to
reply to that. It’s about a woman who’s as predatory as a man.”
- Shirley Manson - Rip & Burn magazine, April 2005
“Butch ran into the very fabulous Mr
Dave Grohl at a party and he gallantly agreed to drum on the
track with us. He lights up a room and is the main reason the
song survived – it changed a lot but the drums remained the
same.” - Shirley Manson, NME
DarthShaun asks: Hey Guys. I have a question about Bad
Boyfriend: Is it Shirley's ode to us male fans who worship her
or is it like in the vein of Stupid Girl? Thanks.
Butch says: That song is very cheecky, Shirl wrote those
lyrics to work in a few ways. To tease her boyfriend, tease her
fans, someone she's lusting after and isn't paying attention to
her. It's really written to be interpreted by the person
listening to it. It does have that sexy swagger to it. - MSN

Album opener ‘Bad Boyfriend’ finds Shirley at her most vocally
embittered but lyrically playful, providing a rather joyous
call-to-arms for anyone who’s ever found themselves in a highly
unsuitable relationship. Such reckless behaviour is seemingly
endorsed by Shirley Manson’s sexually charged delivery and the
raucous and unrelenting pop-rock guitars that seem to coax her
into such a volatile and apparently excited state. - HMV |
